Advancing Semiconductor Innovation with Pilot Lines
As part of the Chips for Europe Initiative, the Swedish Chips Competence Centre (SCCC) supports the development of an advanced semiconductor infrastructure, ensuring that cutting-edge technologies reach higher levels of maturity and are rapidly adopted by industry.
These state-of-the-art pilot lines will provide Swedish and European companies with access to world-class facilities for testing, experimenting, and validating new semiconductor designs. This includes integrating breakthrough technologies such as AI, quantum computing, neuromorphic chips, and energy-efficient solutions.
By enabling immediate feedback to designers, the pilot lines will help refine and optimise semiconductor models before they reach full-scale manufacturing, accelerating innovation and reducing development time.

SCCC ensures that these pilot lines are accessible to startups, SMEs, and industry players on open and non-discriminatory terms, strengthening Sweden’s role in the European semiconductor ecosystem. These efforts will not only drive local innovation but also position Europe as a key global partner in semiconductor technology, fostering international collaboration.

APECS
The Advanced Packaging and Heterogeneous Integration for Electronic Components and Systems (APECS) pilot line focuses on advanced packaging and integration solutions. It provides services and training for integrating chiplets and electronic components into innovative systems, supporting industries like high-performance computing, medical instrumentation, and telecommunications.
APECS enables low-volume production of high-value chips, allowing for proof-of-concept demonstrations at high technology readiness levels.

FAMES
The Fully Depleted SOI and Advanced Memory for European Semiconductors (FAMES) pilot line enhances Europe’s semiconductor capabilities by developing high-performance, energy-efficient, and sustainable chip designs. It specialises in Fully Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator (FD-SOI) technologies at 10nm and 7nm nodes, integrating embedded non-volatile memories (eNVMs).
FAMES also prioritises sustainability, using recyclable materials and resource-optimised processes to reduce environmental impact.

Nanoic
The NanoIC pilot line accelerates the development of beyond-2nm system-on-chip (SoC) technologies. It provides state-of-the-art equipment and advanced R&D access for startups, SMEs, and research institutions.
With early-stage process design kits (PDKs) and system prototyping, NanoIC helps stakeholders de-risk new features before mass production, supporting innovation in semiconductor materials and process modules.

PIXEurope: Advancing Photonic Integrated Circuits
PIXEurope is a European pilot line dedicated to developing and industrializing advanced photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Led by ICFO in Barcelona, this initiative unites 20 partners from 11 countries, to enhance Europe’s leadership in photonics.
Focusing on cutting-edge technologies, PIXEurope accelerates the adoption of integrated photonics across industries such as telecommunications, AI, healthcare, and automotive. By bridging research and industry, the pilot line strengthens Europe’s position in the global photonics market.

WBG pilot line
The WBG Pilot Line emphasizes the development of new semiconductor materials and technologies, including those with high performance and durability. The distributed pilot line is led by CNR-IMM in Italy with Swedish participation from four universities: Chalmers, KTH, Linköping University and Lund University. The Swedish focused materials will be in the first phase gallium nitride, silicon carbide, followed by gallium oxide, aluminum nitride.
The first results coming from the WBG Pilot Line will be the improvement of the efficiency of the high–end portion of the advanced power discrete device portfolio in Europe, and the development of the related value chain based in Europe. The second effect will be the creation of new and very innovative product families based on modern semiconductor materials and power devices having features and performance not covered by the current market.

MyFAb
Myfab is Sweden’s national research infrastructure for micro- and nanofabrication, offering cleanroom facilities and expertise across four leading universities: Chalmers, KTH, Lund University, and Uppsala University.
Myfab provides access to over 750 processing and characterisation tools, supporting academic research and high-tech product development for companies and innovators.

2D-PL
The 2D Pilot Line (2D-PL) advances the integration of graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) into semiconductor platforms. It provides multi-project wafer (MPW) services, enabling photonic and electronic device prototyping. By maturing 2D material fabrication in an industrial environment, 2D-PL supports startups, SMEs, research institutions, and large industry players, accelerating the adoption of 2D materials in next-generation semiconductor technologies.

Europractice
EUROPRACTICE is a European platform supporting the design and fabrication of integrated circuits and smart electronic systems. It offers affordable access to Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, multi-project wafer (MPW) prototyping, and training in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
EUROPRACTICE helps startups, SMEs, and research institutions reduce development costs, accelerate innovation, and bring semiconductor solutions to market.
