The Nordic and Baltic national CCCs make up almost 25 percent of all the European counterparts set up in the last year to strengthen the semiconductor industry and ecosystems in each country as well as in Europe as a whole. On December 9, an MoU will be signed to manifest a strong collaboration between the Nordic and Baltic centres.
Following the successful Techritory 2025 event in Riga, where over 600 participants came together to discuss the future of connectivity, digital infrastructure, and semiconductor technologies, a seed was planted to extend the Baltic collaboration agreement to have an official memorandum of understanding between all Nordic and Baltic Chips competence centres.
The Baltic centres were established somewhat later in 2025 and there is a lot to learn from each different profile and region of academic and industrial strengths and challenges. No single small country can succeed entirely on their own so regional in addition to national alignment are essential. The dialogue continues in Lund on how SMEs can best access shared infrastructure, expertise, and funding across the region.
Funding agency representatives from Vinnova in Sweden, Business Finland and Business Oulu, are also part of the meeting as well as a representative fromaCCCess, the Alliance of Chips Competence Centres for Enhanced Semiconductor Services. aCCCess is set up to support and connect the European Network of Chips Competence Centres (ENCCC) and helps facilitate access to advanced semiconductor services thus strengthening Europe’s position in the global value chain.
