The Swedish Chips Competence Centre (SCCC) highlights the course “Power Semiconductor Devices (IH262V)”, offered by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. This advanced course provides a deep dive into the physics, design, and performance of modern power semiconductor components, a key technology area for energy systems, electrification, and next-generation electronics.
Designed for professionals and learners interested in power electronics, the course explores how semiconductor materials and device structures influence performance, reliability, and efficiency in real-world applications.
Participants will gain insight into the fundamental physics behind semiconductor devices, as well as practical understanding of device structures, manufacturing methods, and the static and dynamic characteristics that determine performance in switching and rectification applications.
The training also addresses thermal behaviour, power losses, packaging and reliability, while providing practical experience in evaluating semiconductor components.
What participants will learn
🔹 Fundamentals of semiconductor physics and comparison of materials
🔹 Device structures and fabrication approaches
🔹 Static and dynamic behaviour of power semiconductor components
🔹 Thermal management, losses and reliability considerations
🔹 Methods for analysing and evaluating device performance
The course combines laboratory work, exercises and a project, with the main assessment based on a project presentation and discussion.
